In a Nutshell

MobileHelp is one of the widely-used medical alert systems in the country for a simple reason: it’s cheap. For less than $20 a month, seniors can feel confident whether they’re roaming about their homes, out for a stroll, or doing errands across town. Equipment is free, and MobileHelp offers a 30-day free trial. Despite being affordable, MobileHelp is also known for good quality, with FDA-approved devices for at-home and on-the-go GPS protection.

Pros

  • Duo plan for spouses, roommates
  • Affordable plans & free shipping, equipment
  • 24/7 MDLive real physician access
  • Two-way communication with built-in speaker

Cons

  • Requires a separate device for fall detection
  • No self-monitoring option

Best For:

  • Seniors who are active in or out of the home
  • Patients with chronic medical conditions
  • People who live alone

Monitoring Services

MobileHelp doesn’t charge for the equipment you purchase. Instead, the cost of the equipment is included when you sign up for a monitoring service. Considering the plans are so inexpensive, this makes MobileHelp a really good deal for your money.

MobileHelp US-based emergency monitoring is accessible 24/7. Here’s how it works:

  • The customer can move about their lives freely.
  • In the event that an emergency arises, the customer will press the emergency button on the pendant, wristband, or other wearable device.
  • The MobileHelp emergency operator will receive their information and speak to them directly to determine the best course of action.
  • Based on the assessment, MobileHelp will send out emergency services or family members to help deal with the emergency.

MobileHelp has GPS tracking built into all the devices. This means that the operator knows where you are and can send help to your location immediately. In addition to the standard monitoring services, MobileHelp recently added a new feature called MDLive. This gives seniors access to board-certified physicians 24/7. They can ask questions over the phone, on the app, or even with live video calling. We think this provides excellent added value for the community.

One downside is that MobileHelp doesn’t offer self-monitoring. Some medical alert systems allow you to purchase the equipment and monitor the wearer on your own. MobileHelp doesn’t have that option. While this isn’t recommended (because most people can’t be available 24/7 to monitor the wearer personally), if that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t find it here.

Product Features

MobileHelp is one of the first FDA-approved medical alert systems in the country. All systems comply with the regulations and meet or exceed quality standards. MobileHelp devices connect to the nationwide cellular network. What this means in plain English is that you don’t need a landline phone to operate your system. The devices are designed to work both inside the home and out, though if you are planning on leaving your property, you’ll need to purchase the mobile system.

Aside from being one of the most affordable systems on the market, here are a few of the standout features that make MobileHelp a popular choice.

  • Waterproof help button
  • Two-way communications with built-in speaker
  • Self-test button
  • Easy to install and use
  • Online GPS-based mapping service
  • Medication reminders
  • MobileHelp Connect (online tools to further senior caregiving)
  • Long battery life

Installation Process

MobileHelp has an easy self-installation process. There are no wires to deal with or electrical components to connect. Basically, if you can plug something into the wall, you can install the MobileHelp system for yourself. Here’s how it works:

  • Unbox your MobileHelp device.
  • Place the base station on a clean, dry surface. Generally, this will be a kitchen counter, a bedside night table, or some other flat surface.
  • Plug in the electric cord into the outlet. Make sure this is not in the way of a walking path to avoid tripping on the wire.
  • Turn on your MobileHelp system, and you’re ready to go.

If you have a wearable device, you’ll want to put that on at this point. There are also charging cradles that you can plug in to charge your devices periodically. The neck and wrist wearable devices have a 5+ year battery life, so they won’t need frequent charging. However, mobile devices should be charged each night, as these batteries only last a little over 24 hours at a time.

The only thing worth noting about the installation process is that you shouldn’t plug the base station into an outlet that is controlled by a light switch. Everything else goes.

MobileHelp is known to be one of the more price-efficient medical alert systems. So if you’re on a budget, MobileHelp may be a good solution for you as it starts at $19.95 a month. Ground shipping is also free, and there are no activation fees or other hidden fees. MobileHelp also gives you a 30-day risk-free trial and lockbox when you sign up. And best of all, the equipment comes free when you sign up for a plan. So all in all, MobileHelp is definitely a good value for the money.

There are various devices that you can get, and MobileHelp lets you choose different plans according to your needs, as well as different payment options ranging from monthly, to quarterly, to annually. There are even some plans that can be paid for semi-annually. It’s nice that there is no long-term commitment with this service, which is frequently the case with many medical alert monitoring systems. We also like that MobileHelp has a duo option that allows partners and roommates to purchase two devices at a discounted price.

Customer Service

MobileHelp has phone and email support, as well as live chat support available from 8AM to 8PM during the week and 9AM to 6PM on Saturdays and Sundays (this is not the emergency care monitoring service - that’s open 24/7).

MobileHelp also has an FAQ section on the website that has a lot of useful information, including advice on how to choose the best system for your needs, troubleshooting for technical issues, and details about the devices themselves and how they work.

Bottom Line

MobileHelp has earned its reputation as being amongst the most affordable medical alert systems in the country. Plans start at $19.95, making it reasonable for anyone to have emergency monitoring 24/7. MobileHelp also throws in a lot of freebies like the 30-day risk-free trial, free equipment, and free shipping. We don’t like that the fall detection is a separate plan and device. But all other aspects of MobileHelp, including fast and reliable response times, durable FDA-registered equipment, and MDLive physician support, make it a top choice for a medical alert system in 2021.

About MobileHelp

MobileHelp was launched in 2008 in order to service the senior community across the United States with medical alert systems to suit their lifestyles. It includes solid medical alert devices, complete with GPS technology, that allow the elderly to move about freely. In addition, it provides live monitoring that will send out medical staff immediately in the case of emergencies. Overall, MobileHelp provides seniors and others with mobile disabilities with the freedom to go about their lives, knowing that they are never alone. All devices can be used wirelessly and from anywhere in the country. MobileHelp also has an excellent platform for caregivers and family members that includes an online tracker. This syncs up with the GPS tracker and can send notifications to keep tabs on those you love.
